LiveKit Is Now Live on bacher-ai

Real-time voice AI is no longer a cloud-only game. The bacher-ai platform has just deployed a self-hosted LiveKit instance — a significant infrastructure milestone that opens the door to a new generation of voice-driven AI experiences, all running under full data sovereignty.

What LiveKit Is

LiveKit is an open-source, WebRTC-based platform for building real-time audio and video applications. Originally designed for video conferencing and live streaming, it has matured into a powerful backbone for AI voice agents. At its core, LiveKit manages rooms and participants — and an AI agent is simply another participant that listens, processes speech, queries a language model, and responds in real time.

The agent pipeline typically follows a speech-to-text (STT) → large language model (LLM) → text-to-speech (TTS) flow, all orchestrated by LiveKit’s agent framework. The result is a low-latency, natural-sounding voice interface that can connect to a web app, a mobile client, or a SIP phone line.

Why Self-Hosted

Running LiveKit on our own infrastructure is a deliberate choice aligned with the bacher-ai philosophy: privacy first, data sovereignty always. Audio streams and conversation data stay within the platform. There are no per-minute fees, no usage caps, and no dependency on third-party availability. The self-hosted setup also gives us the flexibility to integrate privacy-respecting STT and TTS providers — models that process speech locally or through trusted, privacy-oriented APIs — rather than routing voice data through large commercial clouds by default.

What’s Coming

With LiveKit now live, the platform is ready to support real-time voice agents for a range of personal and professional scenarios. Think conversational assistants that can manage your calendar, handle messages, and retrieve information — all through natural spoken interaction. Think voice interfaces connected to your own data and tools, with no third party in the loop. The focus will be on practical, everyday utility: agents that are genuinely useful, fast, and built with privacy as a given rather than an afterthought.

The first agents are already live.
